Our Vision, Our Goal, Our Pledge

Our Vision

Our vision is that for every poem in our anthology, there will be someone, somewhere in this country, who reads it and says, "I wish I'd have written that, because I know that feeling well," and that that one poem will remain in their hearts forever...

Our Goal

We will not make you famous. We will not make you a household name. You may or may not be "Poet of the Year". (Most likely, not, as there is only one.) Our goal is to share the poetry.

Our Pledge

We are not like those other on-line poetry contests. We actually read the submissions & judge them. Still, even though most of the poems entered are not accepted for publication, even those that aren't are reviewed on two separate occasions.

We do not tell everyone that they are a winner, and we will not try to sell you a gazillion different things with your wonderful poem emblazoned on them. We leave the deception to those who are better at that sort of thing.

While we believe wholeheartedly in sharing your poetry, one thing we will never, ever share, is your personal information. On that, you have our word.

no scamming.

Our Publications

We have two designations of winners. The "National Winner" designation is given only to those poems which the judges feel truthfully have a chance of winning this contest. We will not lead anyone on... EVER.

National Winners will be offered an opportunity to have their poem published in our quarterly poetry publication "American High School Poets, JUST POETRY!!!, the National Poetry Quarterly, and to compete for the $500 scholarship prize awarded each quarter.

The "Best of Issue" Winner each quarter will compete at the end of the school year for the Easterday Poetry Award, which carries a $500 scholarship prize.

One "Editor's Choice" selection will also be made each quarter. The selection carries a $100 scholarship prize, and the selected poem will also compete at the end of the year for the Easterday Poetry Award.

All certified National Winners will receive a complimentary copy of the JUST POETRY issue in which their work appears.

"Topical Winners" will be offered an opportunity to have their poems published in one of our topical anthologies. The four topical anthologies are

  • "Of Faith and Inspiration"
  • "Of Love and Dedication"
  • "Inside of Me"
  • "My World"

Poems selected as Topical Winners are quality poems which we feel add a unique perspective or passion to the subject, and which the judges believe other young people could relate to and would enjoy reading.

There is no compensation to Topical Winners beyond the offer of publication.
